Fortnite players used a glitch for “free” skins and are now in debt to Epic

Some Fortnite players on Xbox used a trick to get free V-Bucks. Epic Games now caught up with them and removed the currency from their accounts. As a result, many a player is now in trouble.

What kind of glitch was that? Fortnite players on Xbox apparently took advantage of a glitch in the refund system to get tons of free cosmetics. Apparently an error on Microsoft’s part allowed players to have their spent V-Bucks refunded multiple times.

So players got skins for free and maybe even made a profit. It is precisely these players who are currently experiencing a nasty surprise.

V-Bucks debt is a debt of honor?

How does Epic react? They have probably discovered the perpetrators and have now simply removed the unfairly received V-Bucks from the accounts. The affected players are now in trouble. There are pictures circulating on X showing V-Bucks debts in the thousands.

The leaker SamLeakss shared a screenshot of a player whose account now has -6150 V-Bucks. According to the German exchange rate, this corresponds to almost €50. Some users also report that the skins were also removed from the accounts that were purchased in this way.

A Fortnite player’s debt

In the comments, users are divided. The top comment with over 400 likes is simply “Deserved”. However, another user writes: Although exploits are bad, it is not fair to punish players. They just found a way to exploit the system. The error here is more likely to be seen in the companies themselves.

However, many have no sympathy for the players affected: If they hadn’t used unfair methods, they wouldn’t have a problem now.

What does V-Bucks debt mean? It seems as if the affected players got off lightly again and do not have to expect any fines. The debt incurred is still real: According to Epic’s official website, the only way to get rid of V-Bucks debt is to buy V-Bucks to make up the outstanding balance.

If the players on the affected accounts want to get new skins, they first have to pay off their debts to Epic.

Another Fortnite player, however, was currently looking forward to an unexpected windfall. He won a competition on a very special map and received what at first glance seemed like an unspectacular prize. However, he made too much money from his winnings:
