Försäkringskassan warns of fraud when electricity subsidies are paid out

Soon, 10 billion will be paid out in electricity subsidies to the Swedes.
This means a golden opportunity for fraudsters, and now Försäkringskassan is warning criminals who call or email and ask for account details.
– We do not send out information in this way. Delete the email immediately, absolutely do not scan the QR code included in the email and it is important absolutely not to click on any link, says Jacob Lagercrantz to
Jönköping Posten.

Around 4.7 million Swedes are covered by this electricity subsidy and the vast majority will receive their money by June 9 at the latest. The payouts are also a golden opportunity for criminals to attract money.

Försäkringskassan has noticed that fraud attempts are already underway. According to the authority, it is about fraudsters who send out emails and pretend to be the Social Insurance Agency.

– On May 8, we received calls to our customer center about people receiving emails that appeared to be from us. We are grateful that they got in touch and then we went out with an alarm immediately, Jacob Lagercrantz, press secretary at Försäkringskassan, tells JP

End the contact immediately

– In the conversation or e-mail, the fraudsters often explain that they need the customer’s account details, but that is something that Försäkringskassan would not do. If you receive such a request, you should end the contact immediately, continues Jacob Lagercrantz.

In order to receive the money as quickly as possible, you should register your account with Swedbank’s account register. This is something that has caused fraudsters on several occasions to pretend to be from Swedbank and ask for account details. Even with such calls, the call is to end the call.

Paul Pintér, advisory expert on digital crime, advises on the three L’s.

– Hang up if there is someone you feel uncomfortable with or if something feels “off”.

– Never give out information regarding account details.

– Never log in to bankID or dosa at the request of someone who tries to pressure you into doing so.
