Försäkringskassan wants to introduce a ceiling for electricity subsidies

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Swedish Social Insurance Agency wants to introduce a cap before the next payment of the electricity subsidy. This as they suspect that electricity consumers who also run businesses may have incorrectly received the support. In a consultation response, the authority writes that “a few beneficiaries have consumption that is so high that it is likely that they are at least partly intended for other than consumer purposes”.

In total, according to Försäkringskassan, 7,222 electricity customers have received support for a consumption of over 50,000 kilowatt hours per year in the first payment. Of those, around 1,000 have consumed over 100,000 kilowatt hours.

– One could suspect that it is about some form of business activity since it is about high values, says Fredrik Falk, director of operations at Försäkringskassan.

According to Försäkringskassan’s proposal, households should be able to receive a maximum of electricity support for a consumption of 12,500 kilowatt hours for November and December, which according to the authority corresponds to an annual consumption of around 50,000 kilowatt hours.
