Verschoor had qualified seventh on the circuit of Spa. De Benschopper had a different tire tactic than the rest of the drivers. After switching from mediums to softs, he fell back to ninth. Verschoor then overtook Armstrong, Hauger, Beckmann, Sargeant and Fittipaldi to finish fourth.
