Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former designer of Witcher 3, announced that he was not satisfied with some of the things he did in the game and wants to go back to the past and change them.
Witcher 3Although it is considered one of the most popular RPG games of all time, the chief designer Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said that he was uncomfortable with some things he did in the game. Tomaszkiewicz, Gamesradar+ in an interview, “I do not like some things so much that I would like to go back in time,” he said. However, he did not explain exactly what these changes were.
Regrets in Witcher 3
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz left the CD Project Red in 2021, where he worked for 12 years, and is currently working in Rebel Wolves, a new game studio with his brother Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. Although Tomaszkiewicz said he was not satisfied with some decisions he made in Witcher 3, he said that they took lessons from these mistakes and that they have put forward better works in their subsequent projects.
When the Witcher 3 was released in 2015, he gained great praise with his deep storytelling, impressive side missions and open world design and won many awards. However, Tomaszkiewicz said that despite this success of the game, some decisions taken during the development process still disturb him.
Tomaszkiewicz is currently working on Blood of Dawnwalker, the first project of Rebel Wolves. The Open World RPG game in a dark fantasy world is about a devastated universe with vampires and outbreaks. The main character Coen is trying to survive both day and night world as a creature of human and vampire.
Blood of Dawnwalker has not yet announced a release date, but a gameplay video is expected to be shared this summer. Tomaszkiewicz thinks that working with a smaller team in his new projects will allow them to take more innovative steps in the RPG genre.
Tomaszkiewicz explained the reason for leaving the CD Project Red with the words, “I want to stretch the RPG rules and do more with a smaller team,” he said. Despite the success of Witcher 3, he said he wanted to adopt a different approach with Rebel Wolves.
