Albright’s family said in a statement released Wednesday that they had cancer Madeleine Albright died surrounded by his family and friends. He was 84 years old.
– We have lost a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, the family says in the press release.
Albright served as U.S. Secretary of State from 1997 to 2001. She was the country’s first female foreign minister and one of the most influential politicians of her time. He is widely regarded as president Bill Clinton as a key figure in governance.
Prior to serving as Secretary of State, Albright served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
President Barack Obama awarded Albright the Medal of Freedom in 2012. It is the highest civilian badge of honor in the United States.
Albright kept a close eye on his time and took a stand on things while still ill.
The day before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, The New York Times published an Albright opinion warning the Russian president Vladimir Putinia the consequences of the attack.
“Instead of (attacking) paving Russia’s path to greatness, Ukraine’s attack would put Putin to shame and leave his country diplomatically isolated, economically disabled and strategically vulnerable to a stronger, more cohesive Western alliance,” he wrote.
