Former SR journalist murdered in Somalia

Amun Abdullahi is said to have been killed on Saturday in the town of Afgooye, which is located northwest of the capital Mogadishu.

According to Echo she is said to have been shot to death by several masked men. The motive for the murder is not yet known, but the area has previously been attacked by the terrorist group Al-Shabab.

Amun Abdullahi got a job at Sweden’s Radio in the 2000s. There she made several notable revelations. One was precisely about Al-Shabab and that they recruited members in the suburbs of Stockholm.

During her career, she was on several occasions subjected to threats and abuse. She quit radio in the early 10s and moved to Somalia. There she worked on projects to strengthen women’s rights.

Abdullahi has received several awards, including the Publicists Club’s freedom of expression award in memory of Anna Politkovskaja, and has been nominated for a golden shovel.
