Security manager Peiter Zatko’s revelations can have far-reaching effects on Twitter.
Twitter’s former chief security officer Peiter Zatko accuses his former employer of lying to American authorities.
The matter is evident from the complaints filed by Zatko, who was fired earlier this year, to the US trade and judicial authorities.
According to Zatko, Twitter, among other things, underestimated the number of fake accounts on its platform and exaggerated its ability to fight cyber attacks.
In addition, Zatko claims that up to half of Twitter’s 7,000 employees have easy access to users’ personal information such as phone numbers.
According to Zatko, Twitter gave a representative of the Indian government free access to user data, which can be used to monitor the activities of dissidents and critics of the government.
Known by his nickname Mudge, Zatko is one of the world’s most respected cyber security experts. He previously worked in management positions at the US Defense Administration and at Google.
Former CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey hired him in 2020 to clean up the company and improve its cyber security.
