Former Prime Minister of Greece Kostas Simitis has died at his summer residence in the Peloponnese.

Simitis, who represented the left-wing party Pasok, led Greece from 1996 to 2004. During his reign, Greece joined the Eurozone in early 2001.

Simitis was the person who served as the Prime Minister of Greece for the longest period of time. He was 88 years old when he died.
