From Fulton Shelter to Glory! […] We are SO excited that Coco has found a new life and is now bringing awareness to the potential of shelter dogs and what they are capable of when given a chance. Filming Prey with Coco was complicated

The shelter’s post also highlights that Coco does not have the usual training for film animals has. This is hardly noticeable in the finished production, but those involved certainly had their problems with the tomboy. Even before the start of Prey, Amber Midthunder, who played most of the scenes with Coco, and director Dan Trachtenberg described the difficult filming.

Coco behaved on set…like dogs behave when they’re not specially trained. she was playful “very impetuous” and possessed “a lot of energy”, according to Trachtenberg. When there weren’t any scenes to finish, it was a lot of fun for the crew, agrees Amber Midthunder.

“It was great to have her there. […] But then it was time to make things… sometimes she did them, sometimes she didn’t. But of course it all worked out because she was amazing and everyone loved her.”

Not only did the crew love her, even the test audience couldn’t get enough of Coco. As a result, her role grew larger than originally intended for the amateur actress, and Coco became the co-star in the sci-fi film.
