According to the Belarusian state agency Belta, as a result of the hearing in the Minsk City Court, the judge ruled in the absence of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who lives in Europe.

Tikhanovskaya, who is charged with unconstitutional conspiracy to seize power, creating and leading an extremist organization, calling for sanctions against Belarus and distributing materials to that effect, harming the country’s national security and making public calls to take over the state. He was also charged with treason.

The court sentenced Tikhanovskaya to 15 years in prison and a fine of around $12,000.

In addition to Tikhanovskaya, former Minister of Culture Pavel Latushko, who lived abroad on the same charges, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and members of the organization known as the “Management Takeover Coordination Board”, Mariya Moroz, Olga Kavalkova, Sergey Dılevskiy, were sentenced to 12 years in prison each.
