Former President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested in Manila, the capital of the country, says the Office of the President of the country. Duterte was arrested at Manila International Airport after he returned to the country from Hong Kong.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued a detention order for Dutert. The arrest warrant is related to the ICC story raised against him, where Dutert is accused of crimes against humanity.
ICC has been investigating mass killings that have been violently associated with Duterte’s anti -drug fight in the Philippines.
Duterte served as President of the Philippines in 2016-2022. Prior to this, he was the mayor of Davao city for decades.
