The former Pope Benedict XVI has died. This is according to a spokesperson in the Vatican according to the Reuters news agency.
Benedict, who was pope from 2005-2013, died at the age of 95.
Earlier this week, current Pope Francis said Benedict was very ill and asked everyone to pray for him.
In 2013, Benedict became the first pope in nearly 600 years to resign rather than serve for life. He then referred to his deteriorating physical and mental health.
