Sergei Berezin, who played ice hockey in the NHL for seven seasons, has died at the age of 52. The NHL reported on the Russian player’s death on its website. No cause of death was given.
Sergei Berezin began his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1996-1997 season and represented the Canadian club for a total of five seasons. In the 1998-1999 season, Berezin scored 59 power points in the regular season and 12 power points in the playoffs, when Toronto advanced all the way to the group finals.
In his career, Berezin, who also represented Phoenix, Montreal, Chicago and Washington, played a total of 502 games in the NHL regular season, where he scored 286 power points (160+126).
Berezin played for Russia in the 1990s in the Olympic Games, the World Cup and four World Cups. Berezin ended his career after the 2003-2004 season.
