Former head of Chinas central bank sentenced to death

Fan Yifei is the highest-ranking executive in China’s financial sector who has been arrested during an anti-corruption program launched by President Xi Jinping.

Former Vice Governor of the People’s Bank of China Fan Yifei60, has been sentenced to death for taking bribes.

According to the court, Fan had accepted property for more than 386 million yuan (50 million euros), abusing his high position and power.

According to Chinese state media, the execution of Fan’s death sentence is to be postponed for two years. The sentence is then commuted to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
