THE ELECTORAL BOARD ELECTED THE PRESIDENT FOR THE FIRST TIME
The 6th President of Georgia, which regained its independence in 1991, will be elected by the 300-person Electoral Board with the constitutional amendment made in 2017.
The Electoral Board, which will determine the new president, consists of 150 deputies, members of the Supreme Council of Abkhazia and Adjara, and representatives of all municipalities in the country.
61 opposition MPs do not participate in the voting process because they do not recognize the results of the parliamentary election held on October 26 in the country.
In order for the president to be elected, at least 151 people out of 300 members must vote.
The voting process, which started at 09.00 local time in Tbilisi, is expected to continue until 14.00.
The results are expected to be announced within an hour after the voting process.
