The Marvel Cinematic Universe has played with individual horror elements over the course of its 15-year history. A whole horror film However, it didn’t exist for a long time. That only changed with the one-hour MCU special Werewolf by Night, which premiered on Disney+ last year.
Werewolf by Night was created as a tribute to that Horror cinema of the 1930s and 1940s designed. Genre classics such as The Werewolf of London and The Wolf Man served as cinematic models. Accordingly, the film came in black and white images. But now a new version of the film is to be released.

As director Michael Giacchino confirms on Twitter, he and his team have been working on one over the past few months Color version of Werewolf by Night worked. This is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on October 20, 2023, at least in the USA. However, the film’s most beautiful twist will no longer work.

The story of Werewolf by Night takes you to the remote Bloodstone Manor, where there is a death to mourn: Ulysses Bloodstone, the patriarch of the mysterious Family of monster hunters, died. At the funeral service, a monster hunt will decide who in the family will inherit the powerful bloodstone.
Verussa Bloodstone (Harriet Sansom Harris), the deceased’s wife, initiates the monster hunt. Present are, among others, daughter Elsa (Laura Donnelly), the family’s daughter, and Jack Russell (Gael García Bernal), who at first glance doesn’t seem like he can defeat a monster. But he is hiding another secret.

The color version of Werewolf by Night threatens to destroy the great Wizard of Oz twist
As the story progresses, Jack Russell reveals himself to be the eponymous werewolf and has to fear for his life. The best twist in the film comes shortly before the end, when Giacchino bows to The Wizard of Oz in his production and the black and white imagery bursts with color – an incredible moment!

If the new version of Werewolf by Night comes entirely in color, this twist will be completely lost. Also the previous one Play with light and shadow is likely to be significantly affected, not to mention the deliberately placed red color elements that Giacchino used earlier in the film.
Werewolf by Night is one of the most cinematically interesting projectsthat the MCU has produced so far. Giacchino has created something that really feels like we haven’t yet explored every corner of the massive franchise. Let’s hope that Werewolf by Night 2.0 can convince in other aspects.
