At the beginning of December, a 78-year-old driver was stopped in central Kristinehamn.
The man had not been speeding, and his driver’s license was valid. Despite this, he is now indicted and risks daily fines, reports Carup.
The reason is that he had left his glasses at home.

Then you have to wear glasses
Many motorists always wear their glasses when driving, to make sure they can see properly.
However, the fact that there would be some more serious penalties for leaving the glasses at home sometimes is not something most people reflect on.
However, there are those who have vision correction as a condition on their driver’s license, in the same way that some have a condition that means they can only drive cars with an automatic transmission.
– We have a few cases from time to time. If you have conditions on your driver’s license regarding vision correction, you must use lenses or glasses, says the traffic police David Askeröd to Carup.

Prosecuted – risk daily fines
If you do not wear your glasses when you drive, and have conditions for this on your driver’s license, there is a risk that you will end up in the district court charged with illegal driving.
This is exactly what has happened to the 78-year-old in Kristinehamn, who now risks a penalty of 30 daily fines.
Violating the condition of wearing glasses while driving can therefore result in severe penalties. This also applies if your vision has been improved or restored through an operation or the like.
Then you must contact the Swedish Transport Agency to have the condition removed from the driver’s license. Otherwise, you still have to wear glasses when driving, as it is difficult for the police to determine how well someone actually sees.
