Terracotta is over! Here’s what to replace it with without making a mistake in taste.
For several years, the terracotta color has been in the spotlight and has established itself as THE trendy color in decoration. With its warm tones which offer an alternative to classic neutral tones, its artisanal charm, its Mediterranean inspirations and its ability to create a friendly atmosphere, it has conquered many interiors. But like any trend, its peak seems to be coming to an end and its popularity seems to be fading. This color seen and reviewed in our interiors gives way to another color.
If you are tired of these interiors that all look the same, with wood and terracotta, Aurore Pannier, interior designer, gives us her advice for adding a touch of color to your interior, without fault of taste. If the Mocha Mousse color has been voted the Pantone color of the year, you may get tired of it because one thing is certain, you will soon see it in all the magazines and in all the decoration trends.
Another color stands out: olive green. As Aurore explains to us, this color is as consensual as Mocha and just as easy to adopt in decoration. And above all, you won’t see it everywhere! In painting, on an armchair, on furniture, on kitchen doors, for bathroom tiling, or as small decorative touches on a vase, a lamp or bed linen, olive green is undoubtedly the color that will replace terracotta. Aurore Pannier gives us her tips for wearing it with style.
Olive green is an ideal shade for dressing walls and creating a soothing atmosphere. You can paint an entire wall for a warm, enveloping effect, or use it on a single accent wall to add depth to the room without weighing down the space. The color will go perfectly with wooden furniture, the interior designer tells us. For a retro touch, she advises us to mix olive green with walnut wood. Flawless!
To avoid taking any risks, incorporate the olive green in small touches using dCushions, curtains, a duvet cover, a lamp, or throws in this shade. You can also dare to add color to a rug or sofa cover for a subtle but elegant look.
In the kitchen, integrate olive green into the kitchen furniture or splashback for an elegant and timeless style. In the bathroom, opt for olive green tiles or accessories such as towels or bath mats.
If you don’t know how to combine it, know that you risk little taste error with olive green, Aurore Pannier tells us. It goes perfectly with:
- Off-white or beige, for a soft and natural atmosphere.
- Black and gold, for a chic and sophisticated look.
- Wood, terracotta and pale pink tones, for a warm and Mediterranean decor.
