Forest fire near Röjeråsen – tree fell over power line

A forest fire is raging in Röjesåsen outside Rättvik.
The fire is said to have started in connection with a tree falling over a power line.
– It is about 100 by 100 meters that are on fire, says Stefan Fröbom, officer on duty at the rescue service.

The alarm came at 19.20 and right now around 10,000 square meters are on fire. Several resources and nearly 20 firefighters are fighting the flames.

– We have been on site for some time now and they seem to have a pretty good grasp of this now, says Stefan Fröbom.

The fire is believed to have started when a tree fell over a power line. At an early stage, they did not dare to use water for extinguishing due to the current-carrying line.

– Now it must be voltage-free and they have started to extinguish the edges, says Fröbom.

A preliminary forecast is set for 11 p.m. and there are currently no buildings in the fire zone.

Do not call SOS Alarm

The emergency services state that SOS Alarm has been called by worried members of the public who have smelled smoke. Now people are asking not to raise the alarm unnecessarily.

– We have many people who call about the smell of smoke in both Dalarna and Gävleborg. We have now issued a press release stating that you should be vigilant not to call on any smoke smell, but investigate and look further to see if you can find a cause.

According to Stefan Fröbom, several wildfires are going on throughout the entire area and the northern wind is pushing the smoke south.

– We advise not to call SOS Alarm, he says.
