Foreign Minister on Israel’s Unrwa statement: “A human disaster”

The foreign minister says that UNRWA is one of the few organizations that had the opportunity to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Israel believes that the organization is “infected by terrorism” and claims that one in ten Unwra employees has terrorist connections.

Can you have any understanding of Israel’s decision given these allegations?

– There have been serious allegations and it is good that Unrwa has taken measures. Nine people have been dismissed from the organization and we, as a major donor, have demanded clear measures. But I also note that this is one of the few organizations that can deliver humanitarian aid on the ground in Gaza. This will hit hard, she says.

Humanitarian access

Maria Malmer Stenergard says that Sweden, together with like-minded people, must persuade Israel to ensure humanitarian access and ensure the protection of the civilian population.

– Within the EU, we must raise this issue in order to influence.
