Forecast: Agricultural results unchanged

“Agriculture’s costs have increased sharply in 2022. Price increases for both vegetables and animals, higher harvests and the crisis support that the government decided on in the spring, however, mean that the forecast shows a largely unchanged result compared to 2021,” says Ulf Svensson at the Swedish Agency for Agriculture’s statistics unit in a press release.

According to the authority, costs for input goods are estimated to increase by 27 percent compared to 2021. The largest increases are accounted for by feed, fertilizer and energy.

But at the same time, the settlement prices for agricultural products have also risen. Rising prices for grains and oilseeds combined with favorable harvests are expected to increase the value of vegetable production by 21 percent compared to last year.

In total, the production value of agriculture is estimated to increase by SEK 14.2 billion compared to 2021 and amount to SEK 85.8 billion.

The authority emphasizes, however, that the large price changes on both the cost and revenue side make the forecast uncertain. In addition, the results for individual farmers may vary.
