For years, players relied on the same pistol, but now a different weapon appears to be taking over the meta

In Counter-Strike, the USP-S has long dominated the meta in pistol rounds, but now another weapon is taking its throne.

What weapons are we talking about? The USP-S is one of Counter-Strike’s most iconic weapons. The silenced pistol has dominated the meta in the pistol game for years, but now another handgun is scratching its USP throne: the Glock-18.

While you shouldn’t spray with the USP-S, but rather shoot precisely at your opponent’s head and benefit from the pistol’s good damage values, the Glock is also suitable for the so-called “Run & Gun”.

“Run & Gun” describes shooting while running, which definitely has disadvantages in Counter-Strike.

Players are increasingly relying on the Glock-18

Is CS2’s meta changing? On Reddit, a user named “vecter” started a conversation about the state of the Glock-18 in CS2 and asked: “Is it just me or is the Glock really good at pistol rounds?” Vecter then goes on to say that he feels like the Glock is stronger in CS2 than in its predecessor CS:GO.

Another player also seems to have a similar opinion, writing: “Well since holding angles isn’t good, what’s better than a ‘run and gun’ weapon with 20 bullets for the first round?”

A third user explains: “CT’s have to aim their USPs carefully or they won’t hit a single headshot. Meanwhile, you can do pretty much anything with the Glock while spamming it, even at long range. […] It’s absurd how easily you can get run over by Glocks in CS2.”

Many players in the thread believe that the Glock has gained strength in CS2, but there are also players who are of the opinion that the USP is still number 1. The question at the moment is which weapon will determine the meta in the future still open.

Peekers-Advantage makes life difficult for the USP

Why is the Glock-18 stronger in CS2 than in CS:GO? In Counter-Strike 2, holding an angle is no longer as strong as CS:GO – at least many players think so. This is mainly due to the so-called peekers advantage.

The general feeling from most of the community is that the Peekers Advantage is worse in CS2 than in CS:GO, making holding an angle even more difficult.

What is Peekers Advantage? Peekers Advantage means that the player who enters the shootout from cover has an advantage, while the player who maintains an angle is at a disadvantage. So if you aim at a corridor and your opponent suddenly comes running from the side into this corridor, then your opponent has an advantage over you.

Since the Glock-18 makes it possible to hit the opponent with comparative precision even while running and it also has a fairly large magazine, the Glock is better than ever before thanks to the reinforced Peekers Advantage.

It remains to be seen whether the Glock-18 will be enough to knock the USP-S off its throne. Especially at high Elo, where players use their utility, hold angles in the crossfire and land clean headshots, the Glock could lose some of its newfound strength.

It’s not just the USP-S that suffers from the increased Peekers Advantage, AWP players also have a harder time in CS2. Even s1mple is considering changing weapons in the future:
