For those who are not eligible for fiber, SFR is improving its 4G+ Box. For 2 euros more per month, you will benefit from better speed, a TV app and, above all, an unlimited data allowance. Is it worth it !
While the deployment of fiber is a crucial issue for France and operators are gradually abandoning the copper network – which is set to disappear – coverage in France remains quite uneven, which creates a digital divide. Around 7 million French people are not yet eligible for fiber and, in the meantime, they must make do with ADSL. But there is an alternative to having Very High Speed: 4G and 5G Boxes. And that’s good since, at the beginning of the month, SFR discreetly improved its offer. Thus, the 4G Box, which was limited to 200 GB per month, becomes the 4G+ Box, with an unlimited data envelope, for €36.99 per month without commitment. And suffice to say that it’s quite worth it!
4G+ SFR box: a more expensive offer, but without data limit
Previously offered at €34.99 per month, the Box 4G+ SFR formula increases by two euros per month, but with many additional advantages. It is therefore a move upmarket. The initial offer proposed a theoretical speed of 260 Mbit/s. It now goes up to 300 Mbit/s for downloading and 50 Mbit/s for sending and includes unlimited calls in France and the Overseas Territories to landlines and mobiles. In addition, it now includes the SFR TV application, which provides access to 130 streaming television channels on mobile, tablet and PC. The supplied router, a ZTE model similar to the Huawei B525, includes four 1 Gbit/s Ethernet ports and an RJ11 port to accommodate a landline phone, allows you to connect up to 64 devices simultaneously and claims a range of up to 250 meters . Subscription is without obligation and the activation and termination fees are 19 euros.
SFR’s Box 4G+ offer is very interesting, because it is less expensive than the operator’s competitors. For comparison, the equivalent offer from Bouygues Telecom is €37.99 per month and that of Orange is €38.99 per month in their 4G version, and more than €40 per month in their 5G version. On the other hand, it is more expensive than the Free 4G+ Box and its price of €29.99 per month, but the latter is limited to 250 GB monthly. Note that Orange and Bouygues Telecom are currently the only operators to offer a 5G box. To be able to subscribe to the SFR 4G+ Box, you must not be eligible for optical fiber, be eligible for the operator’s 4G and only benefit from ADSL internet access at less than 20 Mbit/s. To find out if you may be eligible, check your eligibility on the SFR website.
