Allegedly, attacking the town of Balakliya in the Kharkiv Region, Ukrainian infantry captured a senior Russian general who was probably responsible for half of the forces deployed in Ukraine by the Kremlin. While this claim, whose accuracy has not yet been proven, surprises everyone, it also holds the possibility of being one in history 77 years later.
IT LOOKS SO LIKE
Images of someone very similar to Lieutenant General Andrei Sychevoi, the commander of the Western Forces Group of the Russian Federation (RF), appeared on Ukrainian social media and then on independent news platforms on Wednesday, September 7th.
He was kneeling
The video, which spread rapidly, showed a bound Russian Federation officer with facial features very similar to Sychevoi’s official photographs being questioned by Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) soldiers. The kneeling man wore a standard Russian army camouflage uniform and the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. It was dripping from a cut on his forehead and was refusing to answer questions from UAF soldiers.
On the evening of Thursday 8 September, independent Ukrainian news sources reported that Sychevoi’s capture was likely, but this information was not confirmed. If General Sychevoi is in the hands of the UAF, he will be the highest-ranking Russian officer who has been a prisoner of war since the Second World War. However, neither official Ukrainian nor RF propaganda platforms commented on the whereabouts of Sychevoi.
