Crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Israel in Gaza for years were recognized internationally for the first time in recent months. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Defense Minister Yoav Galant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
BRAZIL TAKES THE FIRST STEP!
The Federal Court in Brazil decided to investigate the Israeli soldier who visited the country for touristic purposes, upon the criminal complaint of the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF).
According to the statement made on HRF’s website, the Brazilian government took action upon the criminal complaint made by the foundation about the Israeli soldier who came to Brazil as a tourist a week ago.
The court gave an “urgent instruction” to the police to launch an investigation against the Israeli soldier, whose name was not disclosed.
Referring to Article 88 of the Brazilian Code of Criminal Procedure, the Federal Court asked the police to take immediate action within the scope of the investigative measures requested by the prosecutor.
“THERE IS EVIDENCE SHOWING THAT THE SUSPECT PLACED EXPLOSIVES HIMSELF IN GAZA”
HRF’s criminal complaint stated that the actions were part of a broader effort and constituted “genocide and crimes against humanity” under international law.
It was noted that the evidence presented within the scope of the criminal complaint included video footage, geographical location data and photographs showing that the Israeli soldier in question personally planted explosives and participated in the destruction of neighborhoods in Gaza.
HRF requested Brazilian authorities to act quickly within the scope of the court’s investigation decision.
Calling for the suspect to be detained as soon as possible, HRF drew attention to the risks of the soldier in question escaping from Brazil and the destruction of evidence.
“MUST BE ARRESTED”
HRF’s lead lawyer, Maira Pinheiro, said the Israeli soldier’s statements and actions clearly coincide with “genocidal goals in Gaza.”
“To ensure the integrity of the investigation and to prevent the person from escaping justice, the suspect must be arrested, not just detained and released,” Pinheiro said. he said.
ISRAEL DECISION FROM ICC
In its decision, the ICC announced that it had issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant “due to war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Gaza.”
The decision stated that there was reasonable suspicion that Netanyahu and Gallant committed crimes against humanity, including the use of starvation as a method of warfare, war crimes and murder, imprisonment and other inhumane treatment.
The decision also stated that there was reasonable doubt that Netanyahu and Gallant knowingly ordered an attack targeting the civilian population.
