Kosonen’s result and score is historic in Finnish women’s moukari. Previously Blue Pöyry has reached 12th place in the world championships at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
The last time a Finnish woman has reached the point position at the World Cup level was at the home games in Helsinki in 2005. At that time Paula Tarvainen was sixth in the javelin.
At the Olympic level, he has reached the point position last time Wilma Murto last year in Tokyo when he finished fifth. Murto will compete in the World Cup final at 3:10 Finnish time.
Kosonen admits that the score feels good, although the moods are also divided.
– I feel like I could have thrown further. The fifth throw was really good, but went into the net. This scoreboard is great stuff. I don’t really know what I expected, but this is damn good, Kosonen commented to Urheilu.
At only 19 years old, Kosonen is a moderately experienced competitive athlete. Raisiolainen participated in the Tokyo Olympics last year, in addition to which he won gold at the World Youth Championship and European Championship.
In 2021, Kosonen also threw the Finnish record 73.43, although Krista Tervo threw 74.40 as the new SE this year.
– We’ve come a long way here. Maybe even a few years ago, I wouldn’t have believed what you can achieve at this age. This is incredible, Kosonen described.
Tervo’s eyes on the EC medal
Krista Tervo qualified in the last rounds and was finally tenth. Tervo’s first and last throw fell into the nets of the cage. The second throw carried to 69.04 meters, which was not enough for the last three rounds.
Tervo took the third best result in the qualification with his throw of 73.83 meters. However, the final produced challenges, because the sports coach Kalle Lehmusvuoren according to that, two qualifying throws were also left in the cage.
– Today I just couldn’t get the technical work done the way I wanted. The throws felt good. I could have gone far, but today was not my day. It’s not always, Tervo said.
Tervo said he was “quite satisfied” with his competition.
– This was my first World Cup final and maybe it produced certain kinds of feelings. I’m satisfied that way. Fortunately, there will soon be another opportunity to shoot, Tervo referred to the European Championships.
– I believe I am more ready. At this point, I say that we will go there to hunt for medals.
