For more confidentiality, WhatsApp will allow you to choose a nickname instead of exposing your phone number for everyone to see. And you will even have a search bar to find contacts more easily!.

WhatsApp, instant messaging which has more than two billion active users, is constantly improving – it has to be, to maintain its hegemony! Almost every week, new functions and improvements appear, while dozens are under development – so much so that we sometimes don’t know where to turn! Recently, the Meta application welcomed a new small button allowing you to add another WhatsApp account to your device and to switch from one to the other without logging out (see our article). And she still has many cartridges in stock!

WhatsApp search: find your contacts in the blink of an eye

Last May, we learned that, for confidentiality reasons, you could soon choose a unique nickname instead of displaying your phone number for everyone to see (see our article). A much-awaited feature given that, in group chats, you are identifiable by others thanks to your telephone number which is displayed in plain text, which allows complete strangers to contact you directly. This function has not yet been deployed to the general public, but Meta is not abandoning it, rest assured! On the contrary, the company is adding certain improvements. In fact, the specialized site WABetaInfo spotted in the beta version 2.23.25.19 for Android of the application a search bar allowing you to find contacts who have adopted a nickname instead of their phone number.

How the search bar works is very simple: simply type a name, nickname or phone number to find the desired contact, and thus initiate a discussion with them. The benefit is twofold: your data will be more secure, since you will no longer need to share your number to chat with someone, and you will save precious time, since you will no longer have to scroll through your contact book for a long time to find the person you are looking for. Ultimately, this feature provides more anonymity and control over your personal information, while simplifying the process of connecting with friends, family members or anyone else, as you will no longer need to note telephone numbers – a name is easier to remember than a number. Remember that configuring your nickname is completely optional, you will not be obliged to adopt one and, if so, you can delete it at any time.
