François Bayrou survived his first motion of censure on Thursday January 16. If the outcome of the vote was in little doubt, the National Rally having indicated that it would not support the text tabled by rebellious, environmentalist and communist deputies, the decision of the Socialist Party was more uncertain: ultimately, only eight deputies PS voted to overthrow the government, with the vast majority of the party choosing to dissociate itself from the rest of the left. Since 2022, the PS has almost always joined its votes to the rest of the left alliance on such motions. The NFP appears more weakened than ever this Friday, as the “conclave” on pensions announced by the Prime Minister opens.

The PS is “at this stage” no longer a partner of the NFP, according to Eric Coquerel
“The fact that the PS is not voting on this motion of censure is problematic,” said the president of the Finance Committee at the National Assembly this Friday on LCI. “I do not find that there are enough concessions which justify not censoring,” added the LFI deputy, for whom “at this stage”, the PS is no longer considered a partner of the NFP.
Yesterday evening, the spokesperson for the environmental and social group, Benjamin Lucas, for his part, tempered with the press the significance of a “strategic disagreement” which “does not erase an alliance”.
François Bayrou launches consultation on pensions
François Bayrou is launching this Friday the promised consultation on pension reform, the modalities of which are already disputed, and which will only start at the end of a delicate costing mission on their financing. The trade unions and employers’ organizations were invited at 11:00 a.m. to the Ministry of Labor, in the presence of the Prime Minister. However, the meeting almost did not take place on the planned day. Several unions, two ministers and Matignon spoke of calendar problems and its cancellation on Wednesday morning, before François Bayrou’s services finally maintained the meeting.
“We finally have the floor,” greeted CFDT general secretary Marylise Léon this morning on TF1, recalling that the fixed retirement age, “64, is no.”
Environmentalists and communists intend to continue discussions with the government
Although they voted for censure in the National Assembly on Thursday, the Communist Party and the Environmentalists announced in the evening that they intended to continue discussions with the government of François Bayrou in the coming weeks. “We are going to resume discussions with the government, on the environment in particular. When we are not there, no one defends it in our place,” the head of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier told a few journalists.
The national secretary of the PCF Fabien Roussel affirmed for his part in a press release, his desire to continue the dialogue “with the government within the framework of the nation’s budget such as that of Social Security” in order to “achieve social victories, ecological and democratic.
