For its 15th anniversary OneDrive Microsofts famous online storage service

For its 15th anniversary, OneDrive, Microsoft’s famous online storage service, is going to get a makeover, with a redesign of its web application. On the program, a renovated home page and new sorting and sharing functions.

OneDrive, Microsoft’s online storage service, celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year! Launched in August 2007 as SkyDrive, the cloud system has come a long way since then. For the occasion, as announced by the firm on his site, it will benefit from an overhaul of its web application, with a renovated home page and new sorting functions to better organize the various files. New sharing options will also be on the program.

OneDrive: a new, clearer and more organized home page

First, Microsoft will give the web version of OneDrive a new home page. Currently, this is a simple list of files and folders. The manufacturer would like to make it clearer and more organized. Completely redesigned, it will be renamed OneDrive Home and will first offer recently opened files that the user is currently working on. New sorting options will be integrated to allow filtering items by file type (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx and .pdf), especially with the help of the buttons located at the top of the list Recent files.

A new column Activity will appear on the right side of the page. It will allow you to see who is the last person to have consulted, commented on or modified the collaborative document – and thus always be up to date in your work. To tag someone – for example, ask for validation from your colleague on the modification of a text at a specific location – simply tag the person by typing @ followed by their name. This new homepage will not be available immediately, but will be deployed in a few months.

OneDrive: even more sharing tools

Sharing tools between the Office bureaucratic suite will be optimized, namely OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. The sharing window, which is similar on each of them, will make it possible to manage the people with whom the files are shared, while supervising the authorizations of each one.

Another nice little addition, the Stories! Microsoft intends to integrate this function, now essential on social networks like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat, but also Google Photos and iCloud. The goal is to allow users to quickly share their best photos and videos with their loved ones. These kinds of “souvenir stories” will first be private, and it is the user who will choose – or not – to share them. His relatives will then be able to interact and comment. Again, this function will be rolled out gradually around the world. It is currently only available in Australia on Android and iOS mobile applications and the web application. It will then be deployed on a larger scale, starting with the United States, then the rest of the world by the end of 2022.
