For 140 euros this real PC hides in the keyboard

Here is an economical, ecological and original concept since this Windows PC fits in the shell of a keyboard. This is the AbacusBasic, from Pentaform. Not resource-intensive, it costs around 140 euros.

Little by little, conventional computers are giving way to smartphones, tablets and virtual reality headsets. The keyboard could also live its last hours with the arrival of Tap, a motion recognition system for typing text. Here it is presented on video.

A few months ago, the Raspberry Foundation Pi revealed his Raspberry Pi 400a keyboard compact with an integrated ARM computer. A simple cable to connect it to a screen, and you’re done. An idea taken up by pentaform which launches its AbacusBasic, a computer integrated into a keyboard. As it comes with Windows 10unlike the Raspberry Pi 400, it is operational from the moment of purchase, with two options for connecting it to a screen: VGA or HDMI.

Provided you are not very demanding on the power… The equipment has a few years of flight since we find a processor Intel Atom quad-core, up to 8 GB of random access memory and the storage part is provided by an eMMC module (from 16 to 128 GB) and a MicroSD card (up to 512 MB). The graphic part is proposed with a chip Intel who promises 4Kwhich already allows you to watch YouTube videos or netflix no problem. To play, it will be much more complicated, but it is more than enough for office automation.

An eco-responsible concept

For connectivity, in addition to the VGA and HDMI ports, there is an Ethernet port, two connectors USB 2, a USB 3 connector, a USB-C connector and a headphone jack. All with even a built-in speaker, and a touch pad located on the left of the keyboard. The price is very attractive since the set costs only 120 pounds, or just under 140 euros.

But the priority of the manufacturer is to be eco-responsible. Thus, the internal components can be reused or recycled, while the outer casing (injection molded from a polymer) is biodegradable. As for electricity consumption, it is reduced to a minimum: 31 kWh per year. Or a few euros a year.
