For over 13 years, the crime drama Blue Bloods – Crime Scene New York has thrilled people with insights into police work on the streets of New York and the exciting character relationships of the family around Police Chief Frank Reagan, played by Tom Selleck.
In a long-running series with over 270 episodes, small logical errors and inconsistencies in the continuity of the plot can creep in. Blue Bloods has confused fans for years but with a particularly noticeable flaw.
Blue Bloods confusion for 13 seasons: Even Frank Reagan doesn’t know how old his children are
Let’s think back: Right at the beginning of the series we learn that Frank Reagan’s son Joe was murdered by corrupt police officers before the series plot began as part of his investigation into a secret society. Joe’s age and that of his siblings Unfortunately, over the course of the 13 seasons so far, there have been repeated logical errors.
Although we see Joe’s gravestone in a few episodes, there is different information about his date of birth. At one point the tombstone says January 4, 1977, and then again, June 6, 1977, as Looper notes. Even more confusing is a statement from Frank in season 2, who remembers that Joe was still a baby at the time of the Watergate scandal in 1973.

“The [Autor:innen] really screwed up“, states a viewer on Reddit, because the contradictory age information always drives fans crazy. In the first 7 seasons, it is made clear several times that Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is the eldest child in the family. From season 8 onwards, however, it was completely changed the age order of the Reagan offspring and Joe was retroactively declared the firstborn.
If Joe was indeed the eldest child in the family, the date on his gravestone becomes a problem, since both Danny and his sister Erin (Bridget Moynahan) were born before 1977. In the best Blue Bloods tradition, her age is not clear either. For example, Erin is said to be over 40 years old in season 1. In season 6, however, she celebrates her 40th birthday – again?
Where is Blue Bloods showing in Germany?
The crime drama series is broadcast on free TV in this country on Kabel Eins, where the 12th season was last shown until the end of October. But fans don’t have to wait long for new episodes. Already Season 13 will celebrate its German TV premiere on January 2, 2024 on Sky. At WOW you can currently stream seasons 1 to 12 *.
