The last quarter-final of the World Cup in Qatar. England v France. Which of the big teams would make it to the semi-finals where the scrappy team Morocco awaits?
It became France.
After about 20 minutes of play and a simmering start, French midfielder Aurelien Tchoameni struck with a well-placed shot and the lead goal was a fact.
A bit in the second half, however, England would equalise. After Bakayo Saka was brought down in the penalty area, attacking star Harry Kane was able to push home the equalizer from the penalty spot.
After Kane’s goal, the game was tied with both teams having opportunities.
But with just over ten minutes left, French striker Oliver Giroud headed in the 2-1 goal after a pass from Antoine Greizmann.
Just minutes later, Harry Kane would have the chance to equalize from the penalty spot – again. But the attacking star swamped it and shot over.
Giroud’s goal was the winning goal and France beat England 2-1.
