It was the first time a team scored nine goals in a Champions League game, Harry Kane is now England’s top goalscorer in the Champions League and Thomas Müller, who came off the bench to make his 152nd appearance in the tournament, also a record for a faithful player.
Harry Kane scored four goals, three of them from the penalty spot, and has now scored 33 goals in the Champions League. He passed Wayne Rooney’s record of 30 goals for English players.
– It was a fantastic match, a pretty crazy match for us, for sure, Kane said to the media company DAZN.
After scoring three goals, Kane stepped up to the penalty spot for the third time with a quarter to go to make it 8-2.
Won 9-0 in 1970
– To be completely honest, I didn’t know how to score the third penalty after the other two, but fortunately I managed to score it, says Kane, who has scored 53 goals in 50 games during his time at Bayern.
The last time Bayern scored nine goals in a European Cup match was in 1970 when the team beat Omonia 9-0. They were also close to reaching the all-time goal record for a match with the eleven scored at the Allianz Arena. That record is from the match between Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw from 2016 which ended 8-4.
Müller shared the record for games played for the same club with Barcelona’s Xavi Hernandez. He is now tied for fourth all-time if you include players who have represented different clubs.
Endrick record young goalscorer for Real Madrid
When Endrick scored the final 3-1 for Real Madrid against Stuttgart, he became the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Champions League. Brassen scored the goal aged 18 years and 58 days. The previous age record was held by Raul Gonzales from 1995. He was 18 years and 113 days old when he scored a hat-trick in the 6-1 win against Ferencváros.
