The German star made a comeback in the national team earlier this year for the chance to win the European Championship, one of the few titles missing from his hefty trophy case that includes World Cup gold and six Champions League titles.
But perhaps Friday’s EC quarter-final against Spain will be his last appearance.
– Germany is one of the favorites to win the EC, but we hope to send Toni Kroos into retirement, says Joselu, former teammate of the German in Real Madrid, at a press conference.
Kroos: “In Madrid they didn’t want…”
Kroos himself then had the opportunity to respond to the play.
– They are here to win the championship just like us, so there is nothing strange. But I will do everything I can to try to prevent that. They didn’t want to retire me at Real Madrid because they are my friends, so we’ll see what happens, says the 34-year-old.
The quarter-final between Spain and Germany is broadcast on TV4 with kick-off at 18.00 Friday evening.
