Football: Spain ready for European Championship final – after Lamine Yamal’s record goal against France

16 years and 362 days. So reads the new record for the EC’s youngest goalscorer of all time – which now belongs to Lamine Yamal.

The Spaniard scored a dream goal as Spain defeated France 2-1 and progressed to the European Championship final.

  • Spain’s Alvaro Morata tackled by guard after the match

  • Spain’s Marc Cucurella booed during the EC semi-final

  • Yamal’s goal made it 1-1 and came in the 21st minute. The Barcelona talent was surrounded by opponents when he left-footed the ball into the goal via the post.

Before that, Randal Kolo Muani had headed in the lead goal for France – played by a maskless Kylian Mbappé.

    Dream minutes

Just four minutes after Yamal’s equaliser, the Spanish lead also came. Dani Olmo turned away his defender and shot at the far post where Frenchman Jules Koundé headed in 2–1.

The second half was not as goal-rich. France chased an equaliser, but Spain held out – and could celebrate progressing to the final when the referee blew the match off.

    – We had our difficult moments. We didn’t expect a late goal so early, says Yamal, who also talks about his goal.

    – The ball was where I aimed, I’m just so happy.

The EC final will be played on July 14. There awaits the winner between England and the Netherlands.
