Malmö have, thanks to their improbable turnaround against the Greek champion team Paok, secured the fewest games in the Europa League during the autumn. But the opportunity to reach football’s fine room still exists – and MFF wants to take it for the fourth time in the last ten years.
Malmö now need to defeat Czech Sparta Prague in the upcoming doubleheader, which starts at home, in order to reach the Champions League.
– Paok was the favorite and Sparta is the favorite. But the way we went about it created a lot of faith in the group. And we have with us what Malmö FF has done before in Europe. Sparta has not been in the Champions League group stage for a long time. And even if it is history, you live with it, says Henrik Rydström at the press conference in Malmö.
In the last ten years, Malmö have qualified for three group games in the Champions League and three group games in the Europa League, where they have advanced to the round of 16 twice.
Malmö-Sparta Prague kicks off at 21:00 on Wednesday. Follow it in SVT Sports’ live report.
