The great joy was when Rebecka Blomqvist scored 7-0 after three minutes on the field in the national team comeback. With her first touch of the ball, she angled in Fridolina Rolfö’s pass from the left wing. The whole team ran forward to celebrate with the radiantly happy Blomqvist.
Blomqvist also made it 8-0 after pushing in Sofia Jakobsson’s header for his ninth goal in the national team.
– The girls had worked well and I got a few minutes and it’s always nice to score a goal and nice to make a comeback as well, says Blomqvist.
The last time she scored for the national team was on August 15, 2023 when she equalized 1-1 against Spain in the World Cup semi-final (loss 1-2) as a substitute just like tonight. A month later, she tore her cruciate ligament and had a one-year convalescence.
– The last time I played was the WC and it was a wonderful experience and in some way I took that with me when I went through the rehab. This is something I fought for, worth everything, says Blomqvist.
– It was a super jump, says SVT Sports expert Daniel Nannskog.
Got a hole early on Gamla Ullevi
When Sweden won 4-0 in Luxembourg last Friday, it took until the 26th minute before the goal was broken. Tonight it was 6-0 already at halftime at the women’s national arena Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg.
In the ninth minute, Sweden pressed hard and Filippa Angeldahl cut in 1-0, a goalkeeper board where Lucie Schlime tipped the ball into the post. Two minutes later, Sweden launched a flying attack and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd turned the ball in from a tight angle for 2-0.
Two penalties in three minutes
Fridolina Rolfö burned a penalty high over, Stina Blackstenius had fixed it, before Angeldahl made it 3-0 on another penalty, which Rytting Kaneryd arranged – the two penalties in three minutes.
Just before the break, Julia Zigiotti made Olme 4-0 after a quick pattern attack. Stina Blackstenius stayed ahead in the box and scored 5-0. Before the half-time whistle, Luxemburg had scored an own goal in added time for 6-0.
The final and decisive playoff round is played according to the same model with double meetings with Serbia at the turn of November-December.
Sweden’s biggest win of all time is when Azerbaijan was defeated 17-0 in 2010.
