Football: Real Madrid win Champions League – blank Dortmund at Wembley

Dortmund, the underdog in the context, got the final off to a flying start in the first half and went out hard.

Around 20 minutes into the match, the German team had two huge chances one after the other. The second: Niclas Füllkrug’s shot that went off the inside of the post and had all of Wembley gasping for breath.

– I think Dortmund is clearly the stronger team, says TV4’s expert commentator Vicki Blommé.

The big star struck in the second half

But it would be Real Madrid who broke the deadlock.

It came to a stalemate in the 74th minute of the match when Tony Kroos – in what was absolutely the last club game of his career – struck a corner which right-back Dani Carvajal headed into the net.

When Vinicius Júnior thundered in 2-0 to Real Madrid in the 83rd minute, it felt more or less decided.

Júnior, considered by many (including teammate Jude Bellingham) to be the best footballer in the world right now, also scored the decisive goal in the 2022 CL final as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0.

Bellingham: “There’s so much emotion”

Dortmund still created nerves in the closing minutes when Niclas Füllkrug thought he had reduced it to 1-2, but the offside flag was up.

The title is the Spanish giants’ 15th in a row and coach Carlo Ancelloti’s fifth in total (three with Real Madrid and two with Milan).

– I am completely overwhelmed, there are so many emotions. Now I just want to see my family, without them this evening would not have been possible, says Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham, who previously belonged to Dortmund, in an interview with TV4 right after the final whistle.

Just before kick-off at Wembley, the pitch was stormed by some spectators who were broken down by both guards and Dortmund player Marcel Sabitzer before it all calmed down.
