Anders Torstensson’s sick leave came like a bolt from the blue.
He now writes on Facebook that he has been preliminarily diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
“Most people reading this already know that I am on sick leave and to avoid further speculation, I would like to announce via this post that I have been preliminarily diagnosed with a form of cancer called Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia. Despite three very nasty words in the diagnosis, I’ve already come to terms with the fact that there are worse forms of cancer. I am (actually) fine under the circumstances, although there have been a number of tears. I am going for further investigation and sampling and hopefully I will get more answers there. I don’t know much more now. Must land in this first. But now you know.”
In Torstensson’s absence, the team is led by Christoffer Augustsson and Karl Marius Aksum until further notice. The 58-year-old has been Mjällby’s coach since January 2023.
“Anders has been strong in recent days in an, of course, tough situation. The most important thing in this situation is that Anders should feel good and that is where the association’s focus is to be able to do what we can”, writes club manager Jacob Lennartsson on club website.
