The defensive game left a lot to be desired for Malmö FF in the 0-2 loss against Rangers at home.
The referee barely had time to start the event before it sizzled.
Malmö’s Brazilian full-back Gabriel Busanello was responsible for a weak home pass that Rangers players pounced on. The following finish went in the post but straight into the gap of Nedim Bajrami who poked the ball in after only 55 seconds of play.
– First of all, I want to apologize to the supporters, says Busanello to SVT Sport.
The Skåne had enormous problems with the Rangers’ attackers, who slipped through time and time again for numerical superiority, and if Johan Dahlin had not woken up on the right side, there could have been more goals for the away team.
In the second half, there was more of that stuff, but luckily for Malmö, Rangers’ attacking trio didn’t have their best day at work.
The home team’s best scoring chance came just before the hour mark when Anders Christiansen shot over after a pattern attack.
But with a quarter of an hour remaining, Rangers extended the lead after Busanello, who had struggled throughout the game, slipped to allow Ross McCausland to fire in from distance to make it 2-0 via the post.
– We get off to a rather difficult start, but things like that happen, there is a long way to go. There’s still more than 90 minutes to play but it’s taking too long for us to get into the game, said Dahlin.
