One of the greatest footballers of all time Pele has died at the age of 82.
The Brazilian legend was diagnosed with colon cancer last year. The sad news was told by his daughter Kely Nascimento on his Instagram account.
– Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you immensely. Rest in peace, Nasciamento wrote in his publication (you will switch to another service)in which several people are holding the football legend’s hand.
Later, the Sao Paulo hospital where Pelé was being treated also confirmed the sad news. According to the release, Pelé died at 15:27 local time.
Pelé’s cancerous tumor was operated on in September 2021, but the cancer treatments did not work as expected. He was hospitalized several times after the surgery.
A month ago, Pelé’s health condition received worrying information again when he was taken to a hospital in Sao Paulo. At the beginning of December, greetings were sent from his Twitter account to the Brazilian national team, which was preparing for the World Cup playoff match.
Pelé, in full name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is soccer’s only three-time men’s world champion. He celebrated the championship with Brazil in 1958 in Sweden, 1962 in Chile and 1970 in Mexico.
Pelé is also the youngest men’s world champion in history. He got to celebrate the championship for the first time at the age of 17.
