French striker Karim Benzema has become the fourth top scorer in Spanish league history, overtaking Mexican Hugo Sánchez (234 goals) with a hat-trick against Almería on Saturday 29 April. The Ballon d’Or 2022 now has 236 goals in La Liga and can still hope to join Telmo Zarra, the historic center forward of Athletic Bilbao (253 goals), to join the top 3 of this ranking. Benzema is the only active footballer in Spain to rank in the top 15 of La Liga’s top scorers. The first two places, occupied by Lionel Messi (473 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (311 goals), seem out of reach.
