Already in the fourth minute, AIK’s attacking star Ioannis Pittas sent in 1–0. The 28-year-old from Cyprus wall-played with John Guidetti before the ball was placed in the net.
This was Guidetti’s first Allsvenskan start since the away match against Sirius last season (July 31). And really, the striker would not have started the match against Värnamo.
Initially, Lamine Fanne was lined up in AIK’s starting eleven – but right before kick-off, Guidetti stepped in instead.
– When you get the chance, you just try to take it. It was a nice goal. But to play football, I have known that I can, he says.
AIK in the top fight
The 32-year-old has suffered injury problems during the season and has received sparing playing time under AIK’s new coach Mikkkjal Thomassen.
Now he had to step in from the start and assist the only goal of the match before being replaced in the 65th minute.
Today’s results mean that AIK now have five straight victories and hang on to the European places in the Allsvenskan. The fourth in the table is only one point behind city rival Hammarby, which has played one game less.
