Football: Jens Askou leaves IFK Gothenburg

Just over a year ago, Jens Askou arrived at IFK Gothenburg. Askou helped reverse Blåvitt’s negative trend and secured the Allsvenskan contract.

Now he leaves.

Askou has been bought off by Czech champions Sparta Prague where he will become assistant coach alongside new Danish head coach Lars Friis.

– It has gone quickly. I have enjoyed myself incredibly well and grown as a football coach. It is a big decision to move to the Czech Republic and to Sparta, he says in a press release.

He takes over

Sindre Tjelmeland, 34, steps up from assistant coach to interim coach.

– He is ready. You just go in and drive, says IFK Gothenburg’s technical director, Ola Larsson.
