Football: France beat Austria – Kylian Mbappé behind the winning goal and huge miss

New Real Madrid player Kylian Mbappé was already close to making it 1-0 for France in the eighth minute, when after a fine French attack he came forward on the left wing – but the shot was then saved by goalkeeper Patrick Pentz.

But half an hour later he got a goal celebration. A cross from the 25-year-old megastar was headed into his own goal by Austrian defender Maximilian Wöber.

And it turned out to be the only goal of the match. Despite a couple more chances, mainly from France, the match ended 1-0 to France.

The closest to scoring was Mbappé. Ten minutes into the second half, he was almost free just a couple of meters into the attacking half. But from just in front of the penalty spot, he finished off the post.

    Mbappé warned

Even in the final stages of the match, Mbappé ended up in the center. After 85 minutes, he got into a header duel with Kevin Danso and got the Austrian’s shoulder in the head. He was hit bloody in the nose, and had to be taken off the field.

He then entered the pitch without being given permission by the referee, then sat down on the pitch only to be substituted – after being warned by the referee.

Austria pressed quite hard in added time and created some half-chances, but were never really close to equalizing.
