On Friday, Norway suffered an unexpected point loss away to Kazakhstan (0–0) in the Nations League.
On Monday evening, the Norwegian national team got a chance for revenge when Austria came to visit.
Norwegian dream start
The Norwegians had a dream start to the match, when Felix Horn Myhre scored 1-0 already in the ninth minute. Marcel Sabitzer certainly equalized a few minutes before the half-time break, but it was still Norway who got the last word.
Manchester City’s goal machine Erling Haaland received the ball in the penalty area and pushed in the match decider 2-1 in the 80th minute.
The striker was just on the verge of being offside, but after several minutes of VAR checking, the goal was approved, which also became the last of the match.
The result means that Norway stands on the same number of points as group ten Slovenia in the Nations League’s B division.
Injured before the London derby
During the match, disturbing images of Arsenal’s midfield general Martin Ödegaard were leaked. The 25-year-old landed wrong in connection with a duel at midfield and Ödegaard writhed in pain.
– I saw that he was sitting with the physiotherapists around him. He had no option to continue playing. We know it’s a sprained ankle. Those of us who have played football know that it can go well if there are no broken joints, says national team captain Ståle Solbakken and adds:
– It is not certain that Mikel Arteta (Arsenal’s coach) will call and give me praise tonight.
On Sunday, a London derby awaits Arsenal away against arch-rival Tottenham, and it is now highly unclear if Ödegaard will have time to recover by then.
