Football: English journalist Henry Winter after “Svenni’s” death: There is great sadness in England as well

Condolences for Sven-Göran Eriksson come from many places, even in England. Social media was filled during the day with messages addressed to “Svennis”.

And even English big clubs sent out posts. Something which, according to the English journalist Henry Winter, shows how great he was in England. Because it wasn’t always that the clubs liked the national team captain.

– Sir Alex Ferguson did not want Rooney to go to the World Cup in 2006. When he is angry, he is like a flamethrower. Sven then did an amusing imitation of the phone call where he held the phone far from his ear and said: “You’re angry, come back when you’re not as angry”, and hung up, says Henry Winter to SVT Sport.

What makes him, despite the various disputes, become so popular is, according to Winter, his personality.

– He was a proud father. A good man. He was a funny and warm man. All in England’s thoughts go to the Swedes for your loss. But believe me, there is great sadness in England too, says Winter.

Hear Winter’s anecdote about Sven-Göran Eriksson’s toughness in the player above.
