Football: Djurgården turned against Panathinaikos – took first Conference League victory after VAR goals

After a draw against Austrian Lask Linz and a loss against Portuguese Vitoria, the season’s first victory for Djurgården in the Conference League came tonight.

The team won 2–1 against Greece’s Panathinaikos, after overturning a 0–1 deficit in the second half.

The verdict was changed

But it was on the hair. The decisive goal came in the 72nd minute, when Deniz Hümmet was released by Tokmac Nguen and coolly rolled the ball into the goal.

However, the assistant referee had raised the offside flag, and the goal was disallowed.

However, the VAR room called for the attention of head referee Igor Pajac. After a moment of review, Pajac’s decision was reversed, and the case was approved.

First ECL victory this year

The goal made it 2–1, and stood the game out, despite heavy Greek pressure at the end of the game. Thus, Djurgården’s players could celebrate a Conference League victory for the first time this season.

– It was a fantastic match. Fantastic atmosphere and fantastic to take three points, says Djurgården’s 1-1 goalscorer Tobias Gulliksen to Disney+.
