Football: Djurgården to the semi-finals in the Swedish Cup after victory against Degerfors

The big favorite Djurgården established early pressure at home at Tele2 Arena and the super talent Lucas Bergvall had, among other things, a crossbar hit in the 25th minute.

The Stockholmers pressed, but Degerfors defended well and kept the game scoreless after the first 45.

– We have created chances to score both two and three goals, but they are low and we have difficulty finding holes in them. But if we create as we do now, we will win, said veteran Albin Ekdal to TV4 Play after half a game.

And he was right.

Captain Danielson led the way

After the break, Djurgården washed over the visitors and immediately created two hot scoring chances, one of which hit the post.

And on the ensuing corner, team captain Marcus Danielson headed in 1-0 in the 47th minute.

The second came in the 69th minute when Besard Sabovic thumped the ball into the net after another fine attack where Djurgården played around the ball and Degerfors watched.

“Dominant from the first minute”

The match ended 3-0 after Lucas Bergvall found Oskar Fallenius who scored the final score in the 84th.

– We were dominant from the first to the last minute. There’s nothing wrong with Degerfors, it’s us who play good football, says goal scorer Besard Sabovic to TV4 Play.

For Djurgården, the cup semi-final awaits away against AIK at Friends Arena at 15:00 next Sunday.

– Really good fun, it’s a dream for all of us to play the derby. It doesn’t get any more fun than that, says Sabovic.

The final will be played on Thursday, May 9.
